Find your way at Ilulissat Ice Fjord

- New signs help you get around at Ilulissat Ice Fjord.

The growing number of visitors at Ilulissat Ice Fjord has led to a need for improving infrastructure in the area. Thus in recent years Qaasuitsup Municipality has worked to create a well established system of tracks at the World Heritage Site. One of the final steps in this process is five high-quality signs, which recently have been installed at the start of the hiking trails. The new signs have been a great wish from hiking tourists who lacked means to find their way in the area.

The signs contain information about where the hiking trails lead, the distances to different destinations, the colour labelling of the different tracks and also an overview map of the entire pathway system. The signs are crafted in brass, which in time will get a matte metallic look that is both durable and exclusive.

The signs are part of a series of information activities in Ilulissat, which include this website, a information DVD, signage, leaflets and a television program. The plan is to set up three further information signs at the entrance to the World Heritage Site in 2012.

All signs are funded by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency support DANCEA
