Qasigiannguit is considered suitable as supplementary supply base for the Disko West licence blocks. The water depth of the port is sufficient, i.e. more than eight m, and the port is navigable from May to December. The town has available port areas that can be used already in the exploration phase, and areas exist that in time can be developed for storage and industry. The town is close enough to the Disko West licence blocks to fly crew back and forth in all three phases if an airport and helicopter hangar facilities are established. The water capacity of the town is vast and it would be obvious for supply ships to collect water in the town. The town could be a contender when combined within Aasiaat in order to avoid long waiting time when berthing. It is assessed that no areas are needed for urban development or for expansion of residential or industrial areas.
