Hydropower

Nukissiorfiit and The Government of Greenland has decided to build a hydroelectric power plant to supply Ilulissat, the biggest city in Qaasuitsup Municipality.

Construction will start in summer 2010 and Nukissiorfiit expects the plant to be put into service in 2013.

The hydropower plant will be built about 50 km north of Ilulissat at a bay between Qinngua Avannarleq and Paakitsup Akuliarusersuaq.

Naalakkersuisut (The Government of Greenland) has also announced plans for an additional hydroelectric plant in Qaasuitsup Kommunia. The first step is a feasibility study of a hydroelectric power plant at Qasigiannguit, which will also supply Aasiaat with electricity.
